Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series. "We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka's visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series," he stated.
The T20I leg of the tour holds significant importance for the Zimbabwean side, serving as crucial preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. Zimbabwe will host the tournament starting September 19, which presents a pathway to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2027.
Makoni emphasized the historical competitiveness between the two nations, adding, "Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket, and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign."
This series marks the beginning of a busy period for Zimbabwe. Following the Sri Lanka tour, they are also slated to host South Africa and New Zealand for two-match Test series. A T20I tri-series involving all three teams is also planned.
