Once celebrated as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw is now on a journey of redemption, guided by the wisdom of Sachin Tendulkar.
Shaw's early career was meteoric. He shattered records as a teenager, captained India to an Under-19 World Cup victory at 18, and scored a century on his Test debut. However, this rapid ascent was followed by a period of decline.
Shaw acknowledges that he lost his way, admitting that distractions, poor choices, and a lack of discipline led him astray. He began to neglect training and prioritize other things, resulting in him being dropped from the Mumbai Ranji team and going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
During this challenging period, Sachin Tendulkar, a mentor who had observed Shaw's development alongside his son Arjun, offered unwavering support.
"Sachin Sir is aware of my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were young. We've played and grown up together. Sir has always been there for me." Shaw told News24. "I spoke to him recently, just two months ago, when he was practicing at the MIG. He still believes in me, and he tells me 'Get back on the right track, like you were before.' He believes everything is possible in the next 13-14 years, and that means a lot."
These words of encouragement provided Shaw with renewed hope.
At 25, Shaw is determined to revive his career. He has left Mumbai cricket and joined Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start. He is transparent about his past mistakes and is committed to working hard, with the goal of rebuilding his career.
Whether this marks the beginning of a successful comeback remains to be seen. However, Shaw is confronting his challenges head-on. With the support of influential figures like Sachin Tendulkar, he has a genuine opportunity for redemption.
