The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own T20 league in the 2025-26 season, joining a growing number of state associations in this endeavor.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, confirmed the news to Cricbuzz. While the decision has been made, the GCA is still working to finalize key details. This includes determining a suitable window in the cricketing calendar for the tournament and deciding on the number of participating teams.
These domestic T20 leagues have become important platforms for identifying and nurturing cricketing talent across India. IPL franchises are increasingly using these leagues as scouting grounds. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra already provide valuable opportunities for local players to shine and potentially earn a spot in the Indian Premier League. Many of these leagues are held in June and July, after the IPL season concludes in May.
