West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating its code of conduct during the first Test match against Australia in Barbados.
Seales was fined 15 percent of his match fee after an incident at Kensington Oval where he made a visible gesture toward the Australian dressing room following the dismissal of captain Pat Cummins.
The ICC determined that Seales' actions breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. This article specifically addresses the use of gestures or actions that could incite an aggressive response from a batter who has just been dismissed in an international game.
Speaking after the day's play, Seales attempted to minimize the episode, stating, "It did not really mean anything and it was more a bit of frustration. Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn't really anything in it."
In addition to the financial penalty, Seales also received one demerit point. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, bringing his total to two demerit points.
Despite the disciplinary action against Seales, the West Indies bowling unit displayed a commendable performance on the second day of the Test against the World Test Championship runners-up, Australia.
The hosts managed to secure a slender 10-run lead in the first innings, propelled by a vital 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket. This partnership featured Shai Hope, who scored 48 runs, and captain Roston Chase, who added 44.
Australia's second innings began uncertainly, as they reached 92 for the loss of 4 wickets, establishing an overall lead of 82 runs. Seales further contributed by dismissing Josh Inglis, claiming his sixth wicket of the match.
As the match heads into day three, the game remains delicately poised. Travis Head (13) and Beau Webster (19) are set to resume batting for Australia.
